Abstract
Tracheobronchopathia Osteoplastica (TPO) is a rare, benign disease that is characterized by numerous osseous and cartilaginous submucosal nodules projecting into the lumen of the trachea and bronchi. The etiology of TPO remains unclear. We experienced a case of TPO associated with endobronchial tuberculosis in a 67 year-old female. She had been complained of dry cough for 10 days without sputum and fever. She showed radiologically atelectasis in the right middle lung field. Fibrotic bronchoscopy revealed numerous cobble-stone appearance nodules on the anterior and lateral wall of trachea. Pathologic examination of this lesion showed matured bone in the submucosa of trachea. As bronchial aspiration study indicated positive AFB stain, she was diagnosed as endobronchial tuberculosis. Antituberculosis medication has been started and resulted in clinical and radiologic improvement. Although it is rare, TPO may be associated with endobronchial tuberculosis as seen in this case. The relation may of cause and effect is, however, still unclear.
